David Loeb photo

David Loeb was born in 1953 and grew up in Chappaqua, New York, USA. His mother and her identical twin were both painters. He studied with Gillian Pederson-Krag at Cornell University and with Reed Kay at Boston University. He also received a scholarship to the Yale Summer School of Art and Music, where he worked under Louis Finkelstein and met Wolf Kahn and Philip Guston. Loeb attended graduate school at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he studied with Robert Barnes and Richard Ryan.

In 1985, Loeb was awarded a Fulbright grant to study Chartres cathedral and Père Lachaise cemetery in association with the painter Jean Hélion. Since then, he has divided his time between Paris and New York. In 1993, he received a Krasner-Pollock Foundation Grant. He has taught at the New York Academy of Art Graduate School and at Parsons School of Design, Paris. Loeb shows extensively on both sides of the Atlantic. He currently lives in Fontainebleau, France.
